Permanent position in the Engineering sector in the West Rand, in South Africa (Gauteng).

Our client requires a Procurement & Planning Manager with a minimum of 5 years strategic procurement and supply planning experience as well as knowledge of MRP processes. A relevant degree or diploma (APICS qualifications a plus) is preferable for this well sought after opportunity.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS IMPORTANT ROLE IS:

To ensure availability of all components to the manufacturing process to be available at the right time and quantity thereby reducing the need for working capital, lower transportation cost, reduce out-of-stock risks and general procurement and supply chain optimisation. The position also requires sourcing value for money products and components from local and international suppliers. Evaluating suppliers based on service levels, cost and quality of supplies. Through the examination of catalogues, commercial publications and directories and visiting national and international tradeshows find the right suppliers. Advise on production capability and evaluate production schedules in production meetings. Oversee and manage the stores function and procurement function.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing and maintaining foreign and domestic supplier data base.
  • Overseeing the acquisition of raw materials and components.
  • Analysing market conditions and assisting in the planning of sales promotions with other respective departments.
  • Negotiating the lowest prices with suppliers.
  • Conducting supplier audits with QC department.
  • Develop and incorporate policies and procedures pertaining to procurement.
  • Keep track of the quality of products and services, brands, and the ongoing price of those products and services.
  • Calculate requirements for raw material, components and packaging.
  • Calculate materials usage and demand.
  • Calculate and maintain optimum stock levels, through Production demand planning, lead time planning, safety stock levels and efficient working capital usage.
  • Communicate orders, due dates and deliveries to suppliers.
  • Arrange forwarding and clearing of imported components.
  • Efficient management of staff.
  • Keep a detailed record of the inventory levels within the company.
  • Manage the availability of products to the manufacturing process.
  • Create and maintain product codes.
  • Manage component usage in new product development.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Matric/grade 12 certificate.
  • Background in manufacture essential
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in supply chain / procurement management. A qualification from APICS such as CPIM is a major plus.
  • Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Industrial Engineering would be an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in similar role.
