The 34th annual SAPICS conference & exhibition will provide supply chain professionals with the opportunity to explore resources relevant to the supply chain profession and benefit from valuable networking opportunities. By sharing your story at the annual conference you will be a vital part of a programme filled with presentations by local and international supply chain experts. By sharing your knowledge and experience with the vibrant and connected community of supply chain professionals we will continue our journey together towards releasing and realising the potential of Africa!
Applications are invited in respect of the following

- Ideas exchange sessions
- Any topic which encourages the exchange of knowledge in an interactive manner and which will provide "take home" value for the attendees
Three types of presentations may be submitted:
- 50 minute presentations
- 30 minute presentations
- 2-3 hour workshop (including a tea break) Sunday 3rd June 2012 only.
Sessions may be co-presented by more than one speaker.
White papers are encouraged for the 50 minute presentations. Great value is derived from these valuable documents which become a reference source for thousands of supply chain professionals for years to come. The effort is most definitely worthwhile. Further, there is special recognition for the practitioners in the form of the SAPICS Trophy which is awarded to the practitioner with the best written paper.
Speaker Selection Process
To ensure a balanced selection of presentations, a Conference Content Committee has been formed. This committee reviews and evaluates all papers submitted. Speakers will be selected on the basis of subject interest, suitability, topicality and quality of the abstract submitted. Preference will be given to case studies and presentations by practitioners with reference to the theme of the conference – Africa, release the Potential! The selection of papers will be made by the Conference Content Committee whose decision is final. The review process begins with the receipt of the first application, so early submission is recommended.
Honoraria for conference speakers are not provided. However, full conference registration will be awarded to each presenter and hotel accommodation provided as set out in the acceptance letter.
Submission Guidelines
All submissions are welcome. Be warned however, that the selection process is highly competitive. In order to be sure that you proposal is considered, please ensure it is complete.
Should you wish to present a paper or a workshop at the Conference or recommend a colleague to present, the following must be submitted by no later than Monday 9th January 2012
- One page abstract to include the author(s) name(s), company, titles, presentation title, presentation objective, the material covered in the presentation as well as three attendee benefits.
- A 50 to 100 word précis of the presentation. The précis should clearly identify the goal and key learning points of the presentation.
- Speaker biographical information. 200 to 300 words for each speaker in narrative form and not CV format please.
- Concise details of previous speaking experience if any – don't be deterred if you have not spoken at a conference previously.
- Details of published works if relevant
- Signed and completed application form as printed below
- Colour photograph of speaker(s), head and shoulders in high resolution electronic format
If selected, the information provided above will be used in conference promotional literature as well as in the final conference programme
Timetable
- The date for abstract submissions is Monday 9th January 2012
- Notification of acceptance or otherwise by Monday 13th February 2012
- If selected, the deadline for submission of final papers is Monday 16th April 2012
- If selected, the deadline for the submission of PowerPoint presentations is Monday 16th April 2012 (NB – this does not need to be the on site presentation version – merely one that is suitable for inclusion on the conference CD)
The timings for submission of written papers and PowerPoint presentations MUST be adhered to unless alternate arrangements are made with the Chairman of the Conference Content Committee or the Conference Secretariat
Terms & Conditions
The submitted paper attached to this form is provided to the Conference Content Committee under the following terms and conditions.
- The Committee, at its sole discretion, will determine the acceptability of the submitted paper. In addition, the Committee will determine whether to publish or not to publish the submitted paper either in whole or in part. SAPICS agrees to provide the author of the submitted paper appropriate credit if the paper is published.
- Authors of the submitted work/paper freely give to SAPICS permission to publish the submitted paper in any media so selected free of any compensation and/or royalty claims.
- Authors of the submitted work/paper, testify that the submitted paper does not contain confidential and/or proprietary information not owned by the author.
- Authors of the selected work/paper, testifies that the work is original and has not been used.
- Speakers must adhere strictly to the time selected on the application form. Time may be allocated by the speaker for questions and answers within this period of time.
- Persons submitting an abstract are doing so with the understanding that they agree to abide by the conditions, deadline policies and the decisions of the committee.
- Once the submission has been accepted by the organising committee, the accepted speaker agrees that this presentation shall be used exclusively for the SAPICS 2012 Conference and that only after it has been presented at this conference may it be presented at other such events.
- If for any reason an accepted speaker is subsequently unable to attend the Conference, substitutions will NOT automatically be accepted and the paper and substituted presenter shall be placed on a waiting list and accepted solely at the discretion of the Conference Content Committee.
- The written paper must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document for publication in the conference proceedings. Papers will be edited and formatted before being returned to the author for final approval. .
- Presentations at the conference must be in Microsoft PowerPoint format and utilise the standard conference template provided by the Conference Secretariat. The PowerPoint presentations will also be published in the Conference Proceedings together with the white paper.
- A proposal should not be submitted unless the speaker is available to appear on any day of the SAPICS Conference and is able to submit the necessary documents for inclusion in the published Conference Proceedings by the deadlines given above.
- N.B. Under no circumstances should the conference's podium be used as a place for direct promotion of a speaker's product, service or for monetary self-interest. For speakers wishing to take up an additional opportunity of a sales promotion/demonstration, an exhibition of products and services runs alongside the conference.
