With over 30 years of experience in logistics and supply chain operations, it is obvious why Joseph Walden is considered a super eminent supply chain professional.
His background speaks volumes about his commitment to his country and his profession.
On his retirement from the US Army in 2004, Colonel Walden had planned and conducted operations on four continents. His military experience included leading the Supply Chain Process Improvement Programme that brought about savings in the region of $300 mm (USD) over a period of 18 months. He also played a fundamental role in the design and operational management of a 4 million square foot distribution centre in Kuwait to support
Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Joe wanted to share his skills, experiences and knowledge with the broader supply chain profession.
Joe's work with APICS, the Association for Operations Management saw him as lead author in logistics for the APICS Body of Knowledge. He has written three books on supply chain leadership and has recently published an operation management textbook.
In addition to serving as the Director of the Supply Chain Leadership Institute, Joe teaches Operations and Supply Chain management at the University of Kansas and is conducting a research study on the environmental impact of electronic waste disposal.
As a former SAPICS Conference Terry Smee Award winner (which is presented to the best speaker at the annual event) Joe Walden is no stranger to the South African Supply Chain and Operation Management Profession. SAPICS is delighted to welcome Joe back to South Africa to take part in the regional events which the Association will be hosting around the country in September.
His workshops, breakfast sessions and keynote presentations in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban will be aimed at giving attendees the key to improve productivity, increase growth potential for the future and to create growth for both companies and the employees by implementing strategic leadership.
Joe asks the question : Can you really improve the growth potential for the future today by simply improving the quality of the leadership?
His answer?...................Absolutely!
