|SAPICS Director Nominations Summary 2020|
Notation: listed alphabetically by surname
I believe that with the long-term exposure and experience in the industry I can certainly add value to SAPICS as a board member. I have had significant experience starting with lecturing at Wits in 1985 and then going on to consulting in 1986 at BS Bergman and Partners. In 1987 I started ILS with Martin Bailey of which I became the Managing Director. I was also part of the SAIMH (South African Institute for Materials Handling) and have been involved both locally and internationally in supply chain consulting and conferences over the last 35 years. In September 2019 I started a new consultancy called Relog and believe that it is important for the materials handling section of the supply chain to have strong representation in the supply chain community in South Africa. I also started a business called One Touch Retail solutions in 2005 focusing on supply of logistics equipment that enhance operations and supply chain and as such have access to international reference sites for experience and learnings on efficient handling in retail and lean production. I have been hosting a Covid-19 forum for the South African food retailers and ensuring that food security and supply can continue through the pandemic. Through this experience I have gained knowledge and experience to share with the SAPICS community. With all the above I feel that I can bring a significant value to SAPICS as well as representation in Cape Town.
I have over 25 years’ experience in transforming businesses, specifically supply chain, and have a solid understanding of the process, systems and people challenges faced by SAPICS and its members.
I have worked within and for end-user businesses, and for consultancies / software companies, so have an understanding of the needs of both SAPICS’s customers, sponsors and partners.
My particular skills in helping organisations ‘think differently’, and translate these into compelling value propositions, which I feel could help SAPICS. I am globally recognised as a near-futurist / thought leader, speaking at events worldwide, and well-respected business transformation expert. I am a SCOR Master Instructor, ASCM Transformation Advisor, Visiting Fellow (Cranfield) author and recognised keynote speaker on supply chain strategy, technology and cultural change.
Supply Chain practitioners in Africa need a professional body that will drive recognition of their education and experience within the government and private sectors. To make this possible, I am willing to channel effort into SAPICS to promote it within industry and to elevate it in terms of professional services, support, education and training. I will strive to grow partnerships with other professional bodies and to develop SAPICS into a strong brand that will guide and support the regeneration of business post Covid-19.
I have been involved in the Transport, Distribution, Logistics, & Supply Chain Industry in Southern Africa for the past forty plus years, and am as passionate about it today as I was when I first became involved.
I have been active in many capacities from line management, consulting, Industry activist, to teaching. All have been stimulating and fulfilling in their own way.
I have completed ASCM’s CSCP & SCOR-P certifications and am currently studying for the CLTD certification.
I would like to think that I bring knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, and a learning attitude to all that I interact with during my travels within the Industry and life in general.
